In which we have an Official Motto, and the weather is Extreme
My new necklace is made from a wax seal that dates from the early 1800's.
I love the image, but even more, I love the motto inscribed in
teeny letters.
"FIER MAIS SENSIBLE" : fiery, but sensible |
Truly, this must be the Dragon's very own motto!
As always, she stood quietly for all the veterinary goings-on, even before the sedation. Sensible, yes? But during flex-tests she moved out boldly at a trot with her ears pinned--classic Dragon, her fire is undiminished.
There's another reason we are laying low for a while: the weather.
Lori posted the lightning map from her phone |
We could feel the storm approaching this morning, as we scurried around feeding animals and moving tools under cover.
Then, ka-BOOM! Huge rolls of thunder echoed up and down our valley, and the rain bucketed down, and we scampered into the house. We even saw bolts of lightning, which is unusual--our region doesn't get much lightning, and when we do it's almost always sheet lightning.
Now, the thunder has moved east of us, and the warm bucketing rain continues. I'd love to run out and snap some photos of the garden...but I don't enjoy that much rain.
I have one recent photo, and it will have to suffice.
We had more tomato seedlings than we had space to plant them... so Jim built another planting box! |
Haiku Farm report:
Planted and sprouted: corn, broccoli, beans, potatoes, butternut squash, godiva pumpkins, sweetmeat pumpkinsdill, thyme, oregano, sunflowers
Flowering and fruiting: peas, tomatoes, apples, plums, pears, cherries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, thimbleberries
We are eating: kale, parsley, arugula, turnip greens, collard greens, garlic scapes, rhubarb, eggs.
The neighbor gave us an elk roast (we traded for eggs!) and Jim smoked the meat yesterday and then chopped it up for soup. With a bit of homemade sourdough bread, it's the perfect meal for a rainy spring night.
Stay well, all y'all.
That is a gorgeous pendant!
