In which the rain-rain-rain comes down-down-down but this is no Disney film
I'll skip to the chase: we are fine. Haiku Farm is on high ground.
The rest of our region, maybe not so much.
Note that we are predicted to break the record flood level by more than 2 feet
There have already been some mud slides--nothing so epic as the Oso Mudslide in 2014, but enough to move Big Trucks to places that Big Trucks aren't supposed to be and to close roads so nobody gets hurt.

As I write this, our access roads and bridges are (surprisingly) still open, but clearly that's not gonna last. I'm relying on my neighbors and local officials to post photos for me to steal, because I don't want to endanger myself or others to get a selfie beside a dissolving road.
Of course, this is a Swamp, and this isn't our first water rodeo. We get moderate flooding in low-lying areas most years, usually in early spring when the snow melts faster than the rivers can handle.
The last Really Big flood event here happened in 1975. It was so bad that, even as a 4th grade kid living 2 counties away, I remember it.
We had a moderate flooding event in 2008 when Jim and I were considering buying Haiku Farm. I was probably the third vehicle over the bridge when it reopened, because I wanted to see how wet this property was after all the water. VERDICT: wet, but draining fast. Reader, we bought the place based mostly on that fact.
So, what's it like here today? I took some video and photos!
Blustery, especially at tree-top level. The rain isn't especially heavy, but it is relentless...and of course, the flooding in our river isn't a result of our rainfall, it's the rainfall of everything upstream, and that is a lot.
I worked from home today and probably will again tomorrow (including two book clubs at local high schools--I'm back to Zooming into schools!)
Out in the hen yard, the chickens are grumpy about being wet.

But not so grumpy that they would go indoors and miss all the food!
Speaking of food, we all know that cooking is one of my go-to activities when I'm stuck at home. Tonight's dinner: carrot-cauliflower soup! I'm adding a few farm-grown ingredients to Mom's Xmas Soup recipe.
Do you need something to enjoy while waiting for Spring? How about this silly old thing?

Cauliflower, carrot, red onion, leek, butternut squash, garlic, and we will top each bowl with grated ginger--all grown here on the Farm.
As for me, tonight: I'm all set.

Santa Jim got me this amazing wearable blanket--and it plugs in for extra heat! I may not leave this chair until Spring.
