In which we go to the Highland Games and there's a Henry photo dump
Henry has been a friend of Haiku Farm since he was a little boy.

He's not so little any more.

For many years, it's been Henry's goal to participate in the Highland Games "heavy events": the throwing and lifting competitions like the hammer throw, caber toss, shot put, and keg carry.
Today, he did it (in a skirt, as is traditional).
The skivvies are optional, no matter what you've always been told |
We were there to clap and cheer.
And to take photos. Here are a bunch of pictures. We hope y'all are as proud of this boy as we are.
Rocks for the shot put. Yes: they use rocks. But they weigh the rocks. |
Congratulations on your excellent day, Henry!
I'm reading Outlander and am disgusted by her lack of horse knowledge despite them being constant characters in her books. Did she ask horsey experts for help? No. "I startled and the pony whickered at me in contempt" "Jamie took the bearing rein and led the pony" "You always should greet a horse the first time by rubbing your armpit on its nose. That's how they recognize you"
ReplyDeleteI'd be afraid to stand so close to those throwing events! I had a dear friend who used to attend before he went on before us. His name was Clay and he loved Star Trek more than I do.
What fun to see young ones grow into themselves. Thank you, Aarene.
