In which we employ tools to make the job a little bit easier
Temperatures were in the high-gazillion degree range this week,
so of course it's time to get hay.
However, I learned a trick from another rider on the Cross-State ride (thanks, Suzie!) and this year we used a new tool to make moving hay from the trailer into the barn.
It's not cool and macho like the farm kids did when I was growing up, or even like Henry does when he's around to help with the task--they pick up a bale (or two) by the strings and carry them around like it ain't no thang.
But today's bales were 3-strings, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds each...and besides, I'm not even a little bit cool and macho!
Tomorrow we'll go get more firewood (at Fish Creek, this time) and hopefully Sunday I'll be able to get in another load or two of hay.
And THEN we'll be ready for fall.
After we paint the house.
And finish the trailer repair.
And harvest the garden.
And can the green beans....
Who says the livin' is easy in summer? Not me!
