In which he didn't stay nearly long enough: Puzzle, the best, best cat

No matter how long they live, it's never long enough.

His catnip mouse

(I've stolen most of this post from Jim's Facebook page because writing isn't happening for me right now.)

Puzzle had a wonderful final day:  he snuck outside for a few minutes, then asked Monica to let him back into the house.

Keep your friends close and your catnip mouse even closer

When he came in, he finished off some salmon and had a little tuna water and a few kibble treats.

Yes, the mouse is on his head.  The people in our house think that's hilarious,
and Puzzle always humored our lame, err, humor.

He spent the rest of the day going from laps

Photo taken last week, when they were both feeling more jolly

to sleeping on the chairs or his bed.

A cushion covered by a fleece blanket beside the woodstove.
Just in case anyone thought he wasn't a little bit spoiled.

He played with his favorite mouse for a minute.

He shared all things with the dogs except the mouse.

But, being so sick takes a lot out of a guy. And seeing your people sad is hard, too.

On my head: a favorite roost

The cancer seems to have spread to many of his organs, and there just wasn't the energy to keep going. Attended by his personal vet (Patty, of course) he went to his rest for a final time.

He was the best, best cat.

  2. That first image is gorgeous! I'm so sorry you lost your good buddy and dog babysitter. I will light a grave candle right now for Puzzle.

  3. So sorry for your loss. :(
Letting them go is so hard, even when it's the right thing to do.

To err is human. To be anonymous is not.
